“Kampot Multipurpose Port” worth about 140 million dollars was inaugurated today

On June 6th, 2024, morning, Samdech Moha Borvor Thipadei HUN MANET, the Prime Minister of the Kingdom of Cambodia, presided over the of official inauguration of the “The port will contribute to becoming another important gateway for Cambodia’s maritime transport and improve trade activities, as well as promote economic growth in Kampot province and help improve the socio-economic development of Cambodia”.

KMP locates in Village Kilo 12, Sangkat Koh Toch, Bokor City, Kampot Province, was authorized by the Royal Government to be established in 2005 and was granted a permit by the Ministry of Public Works and Transport to develop and construct port infrastructure in 2012 on a total area of 207 hectares owned by Kampot Port Co., Ltd.

KMP development project in Phase 1 had completed the construction of key physical infrastructure in accordance with technical specifications including 450m long and 60m wide berth with mooring posts for ships to dock at the berth and a barrier to prevent ship collisions, the construction of a container yard with a total area of 55,000 sqm, a cargo warehouse with a total area of 8,800sqm, a cargo inspection building with an area of 1,330 sqm, the construction of a front entrance and exit gate with a guard post surrounded by a fence and two power plants, including the construction of a three-stories administrative building with a total area of 1,689 sqm for office work, the customs officials, health officials, immigration officials, and the offices of the port and port commanders and the preparation of rooms for use as a vessel traffic control center that operates in and out of waterways.

KMP Development Project, Phase 1, has a total construction budget of approximately US$140 million, which is the investment capital of Kampot Port Co., LTD. Phase  2 and 3 are planned to be built with a water depth of up to 13m, which will allow ships with a capacity of 20,000dwt to enter and exit the port safely and to build a passenger terminal.

The Kampot Multipurpose Port is expected to become an important artery for Cambodia’s maritime transport, which will contribute to further boosting Cambodia’s economy. It will be also become another deep-water port in Cambodia, complementing the Sihanoukville Autonomous Port and Phnom Penh Autonomous Port. Ocean transport from KMP to countries in the Asia-Pacific region enable to carry out without shifting ships at any hub-port, except for cargo shipments to the United States and Europe, which require changing ships at major ports before reaching their final destinations.
